A serving youth corps member, Feranmi Odedele, has been arraigned before an Osogbo magistrate’s court, for reckless driving and the killing of one Pelumi Olasunkanmi, a roadside hawker on Wednesday, January 9.

Olasunkanmi, a 16-year-old JSS3 pupil of the Coker Memorial High School, Ikirun, died on Friday, January 4, after being hit by a car driven by Odedele along the Osogbo-Gbongan Road, Punch reports.
It was gathered that the deceased, who was selling garden eggs by the roadside, was hit by Odedele, who was said to have driven the car in a reckless manner. Having been posted by the NYSC to Osun state for his mandatory one year service, Odedele was said to be returning to Osogbo from Ibadan to resume at his place of primary assignment. The police prosecutor, Joshua Oladoye, while addressing the court, said the accused killed Olasunkanmi while driving a Honda car with plate number, Lagos MUN 187 CU, around 11.30am.
He said the offence contravened Section 81 (1) Cap 115, Vol 6, Laws of Osun State, 2003.
While reacting to the prosecutor’s claims, counsel for the accused, Bola Abimbola-Ige, moved an oral application for his client’s bail and assured the court that Odedele would not jump bail. Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara, ruling on the bail application, stated: “The accused person is reluctantly granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.” The matter was adjourned till January 30, 2019, for mention.
