The National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) has successfully trained 148 teachers in Kaduna and Benin on Climate Literacy and Green Life Skills, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.

Prof. Musa Maitafsir, NTI’s Director, revealed this during the three-day training at the Institute’s headquarters in Kaduna, emphasizing its aim to replace the longstanding Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SENDs) program.

Maitafsir highlighted NTI’s global efforts, partnering with international entities like the offOffice Climate Change Education in Paris and the Commonwealth of Learning Vancouver, Canada, to design the program.

The initiative addresses climate change as a critical global issue within the Nigerian education landscape, aiming to empower teachers to instill climate literacy in students.

Maitafsir underscored NTI’s commitment to contributing to sustainable development goals and enhancing Climate Change Literacy and Green Life Skills for Nigerian teachers. The training, conducted between December 13 and 15 in Kaduna and Benin, saw 80 and 68 participants, respectively.

Dr. Ibrahim Bala, Chairman NTI-SDGs Implementation Committee, noted the training’s alignment with COP-28, held in Dubai, UAE, attended by world leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
