NEWS DIGEST – Mr John Ahwen, the Anambra Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), on Thursday decorated the 72 newly promoted officers of the corps in the state with their new ranks.

Decorating the officers at the NSCDC headquarters, Awka, Ahwen told the officers that their promotion had entrusted them with higher responsibilities and also bestowed them trust and confidence.

He told them that the promotion was in recognition of their diligence to duty and urged them to be more dedicated to their duties.

“You must see your promotion as another good opportunity to put in your best while in office,” Ahwen said.

He urged them to brace up with the challenges of their new position in line with the national and global security demands.

“You are expected to brace up with the new challenges of building good relationship with sister paramilitary agencies and as well as ensure effective security services to the public,’’ he said.

The commandant warned the officers to stay away from vices capable of tarnishing the good image of the corps and that of their families.

He said that promotion exercise was a continuous one, adding that those still expecting theirs would get them at the right time.

Two officers, A.C. Oju Okafor and Eme Ude Ugwuogo were promoted to the rank of Deputy Commandant and 13 to the position of Chief Superintendent.

Three were promoted to the rank of Cadet while 55 were elevated to the rank of Superintendent, among others.

NAN learnt that 72 officers were among the 3,983 personnel of the corps recently promoted across the country.
