The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has detained nine suspects in Sokoto State for the illicit production and sale of pillows filled with discarded diapers and sanitary pads.

Commandant Bello Alkali Argungun disclosed the arrest at the headquarters on Wednesday, citing intelligence reports.

The perpetrators allegedly employed young children to collect the materials, and the pillows, adorned with logos from reputable foam companies, posed health risks to consumers.

Argungun urged the public to engage in legitimate businesses, emphasizing the potential health hazards associated with the fraudulent pillowcases. Ongoing investigations will precede the suspects’ court charges.

Additionally, the command celebrated the decoration of over 300 recently promoted personnel in a separate event.

He stated, “They used small children who get them the trash. They filled the pillowcases with it which they sold to their customers. The pillowcases carry different logos of reputable foam companies.”

According to Argungun, this was capable of endangering the health of the users.

“They may contract some diseases without knowing the cause. I am appealing to our people to always go for legitimate businesses,” he added.

He noted that the investigation was still ongoing after which the suspect would be charged in court.

In a separate development, the command decorated over 300 newly promoted personnel.
