The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has defended Mr Bola Tinubu’s performance as President, claiming that the current administration inherited a financially depleted country from the previous administration led by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said at the Chief of Defence Intelligence Annual Conference in Abuja that the revenue earned under Bola Tinubu’s leadership is mostly used to repay the country’s debts.

“Yes, we are facing budgetary constraints. It is important for you to know that we have inherited a very difficult situation, literally a bankrupt country [with] no money,” he said on Monday during his address at the conference.

Despite its financial difficulties, Mr Ribadu maintained that the Federal Government is dedicated to maintaining a strong and effective defence system.

“But this administration is doing its best to meet our requirements, particularly the armed forces and I believe that you leaders will be able to testify to that,” he said.

“I assure you that the Federal Government will not rest on its oars in ensuring a robust and viable defence management and security apparatus to address contemporary challenges even in the face of enormous budgetary constraints.”

Ribadu also praised the armed forces for their effort and commitment to addressing the country’s security concerns.

He urged unity and continuing support for the military forces and other security agencies in their efforts to secure the country and keep peace and stability in place.

“They have done an amazingly good job without talking and I believe that with the support and the resolve of the leadership we have today in our country, things will only be better,” he said.
