The Governors of the 19 Northern states convened in Kaduna to strategize a concerted effort against terrorism, emphasizing a commitment to regional security and development.

Following the meeting, Gombe State Governor and Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF), Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, announced a collective donation of N180 million to aid victims of a recent drone attack in Tudun Biri community, Kaduna State.

Expressing solidarity with the affected community, the governors extended condolences to the people of Kaduna State for the tragic bombing incident, vowing to investigate thoroughly and provide compensation to victims.

Governor Yahaya, in a communique, outlined the Forum’s resolutions to address the root causes of insecurity, focusing on poverty, unemployment, and social inequality.

The NGF praised the Federal Government’s intensified efforts in combating insecurity, pledging united collaboration with security agencies, local law enforcement, and community engagement.

The governors committed to adopting modern technology and administrative reforms to counteract kidnapping, banditry, communal clashes, and terrorism plaguing the region.

Beyond security concerns, the Forum resolved to champion the collective interests of the North, including initiatives for enhanced economic development, peaceful coexistence, youth employment, and the revitalization of education at all levels.

Governor Yahaya emphasized the need to address environmental challenges threatening rural livelihoods, exacerbating conflicts between farmers and herders, and contributing to poverty and insecurity.

The governors also committed to expediting regional integration through investments in infrastructure, human capital development, trade, commerce, agriculture, environment, digital economy, and cultural exchanges. Additionally, they received a briefing on the activities of the New Nigerian Development Company (NNDC) and established a committee to review its operations, aiming to reposition the company for increased productivity and profitability.
