Nnamdi Kanu victim of false imprisonment – Lawyer Ejimakor

Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Thursday said the agitator is a victim of false imprisonment.

Ejimakor lamented that the Nigerian Government is denying Kanu trial that would accord him the platform to clear his name.

Speaking after his routine meeting with Kanu at the Department of State Services, DSS, facility in Abuja, Ejimakor lamented the inability of the court to set a date for the continuation of Kanu’s trial.

In 2023, the Supreme Court had upturned an Appeal Court’s judgment that discharged and acquitted Kanu of all terrorism charges

In its judgement delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim but written by Justice Garba Lawal, the Supreme Court upturned the Appeal Court ruling that discharged and acquitted Kanu of all terrorism charges in October 2022.

The apex court ruled that although the Nigerian Government recklessly and unlawfully rendered Kanu from Kenya, such an unlawful act has not divested any court from proceeding with trial.

The court had ordered Kanu to return to the Federal High Court in Abuja to continue his trial for terrorism.

However, no date has been set for the resumption of his trial at the Federal High Court.
