‘We are suffering’, Nigerians call out Buhari on electricity, petrol price hikes

NEWS DIGEST – Thousands of Nigerians have trooped to social media, criticising the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari over the recent increase in the electricity tariff as well as the petrol pump price hike in the country.

The News Digest reports on Wednesday, the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company, PPMC, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, had announced an increment in the pump price of petrol N151 per litre.

This is just as the electricity tariff increase to N66 per KW, approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, had taken effect September 1, coming barely three months after the National Assembly halted the move.

Decrying the two increments on Twitter on Thursday, some Nigerians believed that such development would negatively affect the prices of food items, transportation and hospital charges which, according to them, would make life difficult for average Nigerians.

Below are some Twitter reactions gathered by Daily Nigerian:

@AdejuwonTayour: “Nigerians are suffering, we are not progressing at all, where is the change they promised? Since 2015, all we hear is blame, blame and blame. Our pastors can’t speak the truth anymore, our Royal Fathers are blind, rice is now gold, no job!!!.”
