The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has refuted reports of a helicopter crash in Kaduna on July 1, 2024.

Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information, clarified in a statement that no helicopter crash occurred.

Instead, a NAF Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) experienced a mishap shortly after take-off for a mission near Rumji Village, approximately 15 kilometers from the base.

Gabkwet emphasized that, since the incident involved an unmanned vehicle, there were no casualties either on board or on the ground.

He also noted that a preliminary investigation is underway to determine the cause of the mishap.

Reassuring the public, Gabkwet stated that this minor setback would not affect ongoing operations.

In his words; “Be informed that no helicopter crash occurred. Instead, a NAF Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) experienced a mishap after take-off for a mission, at a location near Rumji Village and about 15 Km from Base.”

“Preliminary investigation has since commenced to ascertain what may have caused the mishap.

“It should also be pointed out that the propensity to always rush to press in the name of ‘breaking news’ without a hold of the complete facts should be discouraged.” He added.
