Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, has urged for strengthened bilateral ties with the United States to address terrorism and security challenges.

During an official visit, Matawalle emphasized Nigeria’s desire for increased support to counter terrorists within the country. The defense ministry’s statement, issued by Mr. 

Henshaw Ogubike, Director of Press and Public Relations, highlighted Matawalle’s meeting with US Congresswoman Betty McCollum and other members of Congress at the United States Capitol. 

Matawalle underscored the enduring friendship between the nations and reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to eliminating terrorism, with President Bola Tinubu actively seeking collaboration for enhanced national security. McCollum, leader of the US House Committee on Appropriation for Defence, affirmed the US’s unwavering commitment to supporting Nigeria through intelligence sharing, training, and military hardware production. She emphasized that the collaboration aims to bolster both nations’ capabilities in addressing regional and global security challenges. 

McCollum deemed the meeting a pivotal moment in reinforcing diplomatic ties and collaborative efforts between Nigeria and the US, foreseeing significant contributions to Nigeria’s stability through strengthened partnership. (NAN)
