The Niger State Government has filed lawsuits against North-South Power Company Limited and Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited at the Federal High Court in Minna, alleging non-payment of ground rents and land charges from 2017 to 2022.

The Federal Ministry of Power and Nigeria Electricity Liability Management Company are also named in the suits. The State Internal Revenue Service seeks a court mandate for the power companies to pay approximately one hundred and forty billion Naira owed to the State during the mentioned period.

The Service, as the plaintiff, asserts its responsibility to demand outstanding charges related to the use of landed property and facilities by the defendants in the state. Counsel to the Plaintiff, Mohammed Ndayako (SAN), and Aliyu Lemu SAN, request the court to order the defendants to pay all accrued charges, impose ten percent interest per annum until fully settled, and cover litigation costs.

In the first case, North-South Power Company Limited was absent in court, while in the second case involving Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited, its counsel was present. Justice Abdullahi Mohammed Dan-Ige has adjourned the case to February 19, 2024, for the service of court processes to absent defendants.
