Popular Nollywood actress, Ngozi Ezeonu, has dismissed rumours claiming she is dead. The rumour of her death followed a half burnt candle post she posted on her Instagram handle with the caption, “A rare gem is gone.”

This led to several fans asking what happened while some claimed her son had made the post to announce the death of the actress.

However, while addressing this on Wednesday via a video shared on her Instagram handle, she called on the public to ignore such claims while clarifying that the earlier post was a tribute to a departed friend, and not an announcement of her own passing.

She further advised netizens not to spread unverified information but abidance to journalistic principles.

She said, “I am alive and healthy”, adding that the previous post was a tribute to a friend whom she recently lost.

“The calls I have been receiving have been very worrisome. I don’t know why anybody should take my post.

“I lost a very close friend of mine, I posted a candle, a half-burnt candle and they now put my picture on that candle and everybody is saying that I died.

“It is wrong. I am alive and healthy, please.

“In journalism, what you do when in doubt is you leave out. If you cannot get across to the person to at least confirm the story, you don’t post.

“Don’t do that, please. Don’t try it again. This is a new year, why would anybody want to hurt each other just because they want people to follow them,” she added in the video.

The Nollywood legend has featured in over 150 films, including classics like ‘Nneka The Pretty Serpent’ and ‘Glamour Girls.’
