NAGGW to empower 90 youths, women in Kano, Jigawa

NEWS DIGEST–The National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) is set to train about 90 selected youths and women in Kano and Jigawa States, on perfume making, tailoring, knitting and soap making.

This is part of the activities lined up for this year by the Agency, says Mrs. Pauline Sule, Head of Press and Public Relations at NAGGW.

Sule, disclosed that the training would be carried out for all the 11 frontline states starting with Kano and Jigawa, saying the flag-off ceremony for the training programme would take place in Kano soon.

“In its 5 year plan, the Agency is set to train and give out starter packs to 90 participants that were carefully identified from Kano and Jigawa States,” she said.

NAGGW’s spokesperson, further explained that the Agency has carefully identified 55 communities out of the 11 frontline states, making it five communities from each state.

She said the trainees would be equipped with starter packs as soon as they complete their training.

According to Mrs. Sule, the objective of the training is to reduce rural poverty, diversify the income sources of persons living in rural areas, create employment, reduce pressure on land resource, boost rural economy and curtail social unrest, among others.

Contrary to reports that NAGGW is recruiting, Sule, debunked the fake news which is been circulated in some quarters about the recruitment of new staff.

She said: “The Agency, for now, is not recruiting.”
