NEWS DIGEST – A 21-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Ndagi Mohammed, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing four motorcycles valued at N947,000.

Mohammed, a resident of Idi-Araba, Mushin, Lagos, is being tried for stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Aondohemba Koti, said that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 12, at Mushin, Lagos.

He said that the defendant stole four motorcycles valued at N947, 000 property of the complainant, Mr Jerry Peter.

Koti said that the complainant gave four motorcycles to the defendant to give to riders, for commercial purpose.

“The complainant gave his four motorcycles to the defendant to get riders that will operate them and be delivering money to him on a weekly basis.

“The defendant sold the motorcycles and relocated to his hometown in Niger.

“Efforts made by the complainant to get the money or motorcycles proved unsuccessful, as the defendant refused to pick his calls.

“The defendant was traced to his hometown and was arrested,” the prosecutor said.

Koti said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, which prescribes three years jail term for stealing.

Following his plea of not guilty, the Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, admitted him to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Tanimola said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and must show evidence of two years tax payments to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned further hearing in the case until March 6. (NAN)
