Australian bowler Mitchell Starc has clinched the title of the priciest signing in Indian Premier League history. The Kolkata Knight Riders secured his services with a whopping bid of 24.75 crore Indian rupees (£2.3m), eclipsing the previous record set just a day ago when Pat Cummins fetched 20.5 cr (£1.9m).

This eye-watering sum surpasses the 2022 benchmark of 18.15 cr (£1.85m) paid for England’s Sam Curran. The IPL auction also saw England bowlers Chris Woakes and Harry Brook change hands. Woakes joined Punjab Kings for 4.2 cr (£400,000), while Brook headed to Delhi Capitals for a modest 4 cr (£380,000) – a significant drop from his £1.35m price tag last year.

In a surprising twist, retired international cricketer David Willey found a new home with Lucknow Super Giants, securing a deal worth 2 cr (£189,000).
