The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, in the sum of N10 billion pending his trial for an alleged N33 billion fraud case.

Justice James Omotosho delivered the ruling on Friday, with strict conditions attached to Mamman’s release.

According to the court’s decision, Mamman’s sureties must possess landed properties in Abuja valued at no less than N750 million.

They are also required to submit a three-year tax clearance certificate and an affidavit detailing their financial means.

Additionally, both Mamman and his sureties must provide certified copies of their recent bank statements and passport photographs.

Mamman is also required to surrender his international passport to the court’s registrar.

Alternatively, the court has allowed for a bank guarantee or bond to cover the N10 billion bail amount.

Mamman’s legal team, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Ate, requested bail under lenient terms, highlighting Mamman’s cooperation with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during his two-year administrative bail.

The EFCC, represented by A. O. Mohammed, did not oppose bail but emphasized conditions to ensure Mamman’s presence at his trial.

Mamman, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, was arrested in 2021 and faces a 12-count charge alleging conspiracy to divert N22 billion intended for power projects and acquiring assets within and outside Nigeria.

The case is scheduled for further hearing on September 25th.
