Despite mockery I’m still loyal to Buhari, says Man who trekked from Gombe to Abuja without getting anything

NEWS DIGEST – 50-year-old Dahiru Buba promised himself that he would do “something extraordinary” should President Muhammadu Buhari finally get elected as president in 2015, after 3 unsuccessful attempts.

In excitement, after Buhari was confirmed winner of the 2015 presidential election, Dahiru Buba trekked about 550km from Gombe to Abuja in a journey that would take 15 days and three different slippers.

Dahiru now has to suffer excruciating leg pain. This pain, which reduced him to depending on others the last three years, started with a swollen foot on completing the journey, according to him.

Dahiru told The Punch: “I knew it was caused by the trekking because I never had that problem until that exercise. Of course I knew my body system before the trekking and I know how it has been after the trekking. I can tell when a particular part of my body begins to malfunction.

“I’ve had it for over three years now. It started like a joke; it started with some reactions around my toes and they gradually moved to my knees. I started having pain in my legs.”

But Dahiru has no regrets. If faced with the option to do it all over again, Dahiru  “would still trek for the president.”

“I don’t regret my loyalty at all; no way. It was something I did wholeheartedly. Nobody coerced me or urged me to do it. I don’t regret my loyalty to the party and the President,” said Dahiru, who is a card-carrying member of the APC.

Dahiru claims he gets mocked by people because he has little to show for the 15 days trek. His friends, who knew about his medical predicament and financial condition, also ridiculed him saying “trekking to Mecca would have been more beneficial.”

When Dahiru set to trek from Gombe to Abuja, he had hoped that he would be rewarded, but got only #10,000, his transport fare back to Gombe.

“Everyone that heard about my journey thought I returned home with huge money. But the truth is that only N10,000 was given to me,” he said.

All Dahiru wants is a fully restored leg. And a worthy reward. Although his medical bills is being taken care by Alhaji  Muhammed Yahaya, Governor of Gombe State,  he would still want a reward capable of keeping mockers quiet.

“I want to also call on the government to please buy me a house because the house I stay in Dukku LGA is not mine. This is a way for the government to intervene and make people making fun of me to shut up. People have been taunting me for trekking without getting a worthy reward,” he added.
