Man kills mother over breakfast
NEWS DIGEST – A 42 year old man, Chinedu Ikegwuonu, yesterday allegedly killed his 67 year old mother Mrs Benedeth Ikegwuonu in Okpunoeze Uruagu, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State over breakfast.
It was gathered that the deceased had prepared yam porridge for breakfast, as opposed to the noodles requested by the suspect before he stepped out of the house.
A resident of the area said on returning, the suspect expressed surprise seeing his mother preparing another type of meal.
A source in the community said: “The mother was busy preparing the yam porridge without suspecting anything when the son returned.
“Suddenly, pandemonium ensued. But by the time we rushed there, the man had killed his mother inside her kitchen.

“After stabbing the mother in the neck while she was cooking, he abandoned her in a pool of her blood and ran away, leaving behind his wife and son.”
According to the source, the man had been in a running battle with the mother after she defeated him in a court case over family issues.
The source added that late woman had four boys and three girls, one of who died recently in a fatal accident, noting that the suspect returned to Nnewi from a failed business in Aba, Abia State.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect used machete on the deceased by cutting her neck before fleeing with the machete, adding that the deceased was later rushed to Akwudo Hospital, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The Police spokesman said the deceased’s younger son, Onyedika Ikegwuonu, reported the matter at the Central Police Station, Nnewi.
