NEWS DIGEST – A 44-year-old man, Adekunle Isiaka, who allegedly drove recklessly and killed a pedestrian, on Thursday, appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Siaka, who resides at No 16, Shomade Close, Ishaga, Surulere, Lagos, is being tried for driving without a licence and manslaughter.

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 18 along Apapa/Oshodi Expressway by Agunlejika Bus/Stop, Ijeshatedo, Lagos.

Ekhueorohan said that the defendants drove a Toyota Camry car marked LSR 773 DS in a dangerous manner to hit Ngozi Okobi, who died on the spot.

He said the defendant drove the vehicle on the public highway without a driver’s licence.

Ekhueorohan said  that Isiaka was apprehended by passersby, who handed him over to the police.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 20 and 111 of the Road Traffic Acts of Lagos State, 2012.

When the charges were read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty.

The magistrate, Mrs A.K. Tella, granted him bail in the sum of N350, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that one of the sureties must be a civil servant on Grade Level 14.

The case was adjourned until June 11 for mention. (NAN)
