Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala believes that her success in women’s football in Africa is a result of her battle to maintain consistency over time.
With her most recent victory coming at the event held in Marrakesh, Morocco earlier this month, Oshoala has now won a record six CAF Women’s Player of the Year awards.
Oshoala had an incredible year for both her club and her nation in the year under review. She scored 21 goals in the league, won La Liga and the UEFA Women’s Champions League with Barcelona Feminine, and played a major role in Nigeria’s incredible run at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Her goal in Nigeria’s thrilling 3-2 victory against co-hosts Australia at the World Cup made her the first female African player to score in three World Cups.

Oshoala had previously won the prize in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022. This time around, the 29-year-old defeated Thembi Kgatlana of South Africa and Barbara Banda of Zambia to take home the trophy.
The Barcelona Feminine forward remarked at the homecoming ceremony held in her honor on Monday that she finds it simple to continue playing at the highest level since she loves the game.
“For me, it’s very simple, I love my job, I love what I do, I try to be consistent, which is actually one of the most difficult things to do. It takes dedication and I tell myself every day that I want to be better than who I was yesterday,” Oshoala said.
This season, Oshoala has scored five league goals in eight appearances before the Spanish women’s league went on break.
