Liberia’s National Elections Commission (NEC) has honored Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with a special tribute.

The NEC dedicated a personalized workspace for its staff, officiated by Prof. Yakubu upon the invitation of NEC Liberia Chairperson, Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah. 

In her address, Madam Lansanah expressed gratitude for the crucial technical support provided by INEC Nigeria and Prof. Yakubu, which has strengthened Liberia’s electoral processes.

She praised Prof. Yakubu’s contributions as President of the ECOWAS Network of Electoral Commissions (ECONEC) and thanked him for his unwavering support. 

Prof. Yakubu, in response, appreciated the honor bestowed upon INEC Nigeria and highlighted the value of the Workspace in improving operational capabilities. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) and the need for peer support in managing complex elections. 

The event was attended by distinguished guests, including the United Nations Resident Coordinator, the Nigerian Embassy Charge d’affaires, and representatives from the Liberian Bar Association, NEC Liberia, and well-wishers.
