Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a former member of the House of Representatives representing the Ika Federal Constituency of Delta State, has tragically passed away.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening while he was watching the AFCON semifinal match between Nigeria and South Africa.

According to a close source, Dr. Ojougboh, a medical doctor, succumbed during the Nigeria vs. South Africa game. The unfortunate event unfolded when a penalty was awarded against Nigeria.

Dr. Ojougboh reportedly shouted and collapsed due to a severe heart attack when South Africa scored.

The PUNCH reported that at the time of reporting, his family had not released an official statement regarding his demise.

The incident happened when the penalty was awarded against Nigeria. Dr Ojougboh was said to have shouted and slumped due to a massive heart attack when SA scored.

In another related development, during the same match, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, identified as Samuel collapsed and died while watching the penalty shootout.

Samuel, serving in Adamawa, passed away before the final shootout that secured Nigeria’s spot in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) final.

It was gathered that Samuel fainted during the celebration of Nigeria’s victory. Despite efforts to reach the hospital, he was pronounced dead at the scene. NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Jingi Dennis, confirmed the incident, stating that Samuel collapsed after expressing discomfort with penalty shootouts. Efforts to contact the Police Public Relations Officer were unsuccessful.

“We lost one Nigerian a few minutes ago during our victory celebration over South Africa today at our Sports Viewing Center (SVC) here in Numan.

“The corp member who is serving in numan from Kaduna has fainted before the kick-off of the winning goal.

“He died before they could reach the hospital in Numan, may his soul rest in peace,” he said.

Confirming the incident, the NYSC Coordinator in Adamawa state, Mr Jingi Dennis, in a telephone conversation, said “l have received the news of his death last night, I hope to have more details today.

“According to his colleagues who went with him to watch the match, the late corp member told them that he doesn’t like watching penalty shootouts, he then bowed his head and all of a sudden he collapsed.”

“He was confirmed dead at the General Hospital in Numan by the Doctor,” the coordinator said.
