The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has uncovered a series of corruption and misconduct cases involving 14 of its officers during their duty in the past four months.

Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, revealed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos.

Bakare-Oki stated that since assuming office on November 20, 2023, a total of 18 officers have faced disciplinary hearings before the authority’s personnel management board for various misconducts, with 14 found culpable.

These erring officers, according to Bakare-Oki, have been subjected to disciplinary actions, which include dismissal, reduction in rank, voluntary retirement, and issuance of warning letters.

The revelation underscores LASTMA’s commitment to maintaining discipline and integrity within its ranks, ensuring efficient traffic management and public trust in the institution’s operations.

“There are stipulated rules, and we have our code of conduct.

“The modus operandi is that any of our men found wanting either in terms of extortion or any other form of illicit act will be given a query.

“After the query, the officer or personnel will be slated for personnel management board’s discipline,” he said.

On payment of fines with cash by motorists, the LASTMA general manager said that it was not allowed.

He said that every payment must be made into Lagos State Government’s account through a bank.
