The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps has made 63 arrests in different locations for selling goods on the street and for crossing the highway without using the pedestrian bridges.

Tokunbo Wahab, the state commissioner for the environment and water resources, announced this on Friday via a post on his X handle.

The caption reads, “63 persons were arrested yesterday by the officials of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps #LAGESCOfficial(KAI) at different locations in the state for crossing the highway without using the pedestrian bridge, and street trading.

“Some of these locations are Oshodi Oke, Ile Epo, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Ajah, etc. They have been charged to the court for prosecution in line with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Protection Law 2017.”

In the state’s Oshodi Oke neighborhood, thirteen people were taken into custody on Thursday for attempting to cross the highway without using the pedestrian bridge.

The Lagos State Government declared in February that it is illegal for pedestrians to cross major state highways, and it encouraged citizens to use pedestrian bridges instead.

It added that any defaulter caught will be prosecuted.
