Officials from the Lagos State Taskforce embarked on a major cleanup operation in the Lekki area on Wednesday, demolishing hundreds of makeshift houses along the regional road.

The task force’s chairman, CSP Shola Jejeloye, stated that the operation’s goals were to stop illegal construction in the area and address environmental degradation.

According to him, 220 commercial motorcycles, or “okadas,” that travel on several routes such as Bourdillon, Falomo, Ikeja, Abeokuta Expressway, Ojodu Berger, and Fagba, were also seized.

Jejeloye pledged to step up traffic enforcement efforts until the rebellious okada operators are entirely removed from highways and restricted routes, calling their actions intolerable.

He warned, “Okada operators are advised to comply with regulations or face severe consequences. Our operations will become more rigorous, and passengers caught on bikes will be prosecuted according to the law.”
