According to the Lagos State government, its N113.3 billion education budget, which represents about 27.11% of the state’s entire budget, is roughly one third of the N369 billion, which has been budgeted by the federal government, for the entire country. The state also assured to implement the one meal a day programme.

This information was revealed by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, during the grand finale of activities held to mark this year’s Children’s Day celebration, and to commemorate hi sone in year in office.

Whilst speaking on the theme ‘Stop Violence Against Children’, Ambode, who spoke through his deputy, Dr Idiat Adebule, ensured that any one who should condone violence or commit violent acts against children in any form, whether is is physically sexual, kidnap, etc, would be dealt with according to the law.

The governor also praised the improvement in the education sector, as exemplified by the results of the various c-curricular activities locally and internationally, noting that is has been a source of jour to Lagos state.

Mr Adesina Odeyemi, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, also gave a friendly reminder to the students, stating that education is an assured way of attaining greatness in life as it aids to prepare individuals for the various challenges of life. He told them is was necessary for them to work hard, in order to make they parents and communities proud, though their performance.
On the meal a day programme, Adebule stated that all efforts are being made, in order to perfect the programme, which is focused on increasing the nutritional content of school children meals and to keep them healthy, which in turn will encourage them to stay in school.

She said, “The state Government has made provision for it in the budget to show her commitment, but is awaiting the intervention of the Federal Government since it was designed to be funded by the Federal and State Government on 60:40 ratio counterpart funding.”
