The Lagos State Government has revealed plans to introduce 2,000 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses by the end of the year.

This announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during the commencement of the 2024 ministerial briefing.

Osiyemi explained that the state government has collaborated with private operators under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework to introduce the CNG buses.

Additionally, he disclosed that a private transport operator is scheduled to launch 231 electronic vehicles in June.

Highlighting achievements in the transportation sector over the past year, Osiyemi said “the automatic number plate recognition technology captured 856,680 traffic violators from January 2023 to March 2024.

“the traffic management solution devices handled by vehicle inspection service officers captured 10,421 violators between January 2023 and March 2024.”

Osiyemi elaborated that along with the implementation of traffic management solution devices overseen by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), officials recorded 26,816 violations from January to March this year.

Additionally, he mentioned that the state government plans to inaugurate the LASTMA complaint call center by the end of this month to facilitate easy access to the agency.

The transportation commissioner also noted that the State Environment and Special Offences Enforcement Unit has seized over 5,000 motorcycles in the past two months.
