In a resolute pledge of support for students at the Lagos State University (LASU), Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State reiterated the commitment of his administration to ensuring their access to the Federal Government’s student loan program.

His declaration came during his address at the 27th Convocation of LASU, where he underscored the paramount importance of empowering students in state-owned tertiary institutions to unlock their full potential.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the imperative of nurturing a generation of innovative thinkers, problem-solvers, and visionary leaders who would spearhead sustainable development not only within Lagos State but also across Nigeria.

He stressed the collaborative efforts between the Lagos State Government and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund to facilitate LASU students’ seamless access to the national student loan program, ensuring that they derive maximum benefit from this initiative without any delay.

Furthermore, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted society’s collective responsibility to instill in youths the value of academic excellence, urging them to aspire to academic success with the same fervor and enthusiasm typically reserved for artistic and sporting achievements.

During the convocation ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu bestowed honors upon Olaniyi Olawale, the highest-achieving student for the 2022/2023 session from the Accounting Education Department, who attained a remarkable CGPA of 4.98.

In recognition of Olawale’s exceptional accomplishment, the governor awarded him a substantial cash prize of ₦10 million, commending his unwavering dedication and outstanding academic prowess.

Governor Sanwo-Olu seized the moment to encourage other students to emulate Olawale’s exemplary performance and strive for excellence in their academic pursuits.

In her address, LASU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello lauded the convocation ceremony as a poignant symbol of fulfillment and pride for the university’s graduands, particularly the 89 Doctors of Philosophy and 66 professional doctoral degrees recipients who exhibited exemplary character and academic excellence throughout their academic journey.
