NEWS DIGEST- Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, has ordered the immediate closure of Ladipo Market in Mushin, citing several environmental offenses. These offenses include reckless waste disposal, unhygienic premises, and non-payment of waste bills.

Wahab added that the closure will remain in effect until traders and market stakeholders fulfill the necessary conditions for redress. This action is part of ongoing efforts to enforce compliance in markets across the state. And it also serves as a reminder that all entities, regardless of their size or influence, must adhere to environmental laws.

The market, which specializes in automotive spare parts and related services, has been a center of concern for environmental issues, he said.

However, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) will assess the market’s environmental impact and implement corrective measures during the closure.

This move emphasizes LAWMA’s dedication to upholding environmental laws and ensuring sustainable economic activities in Lagos State. The offensive against environmental infractions will continue until order is restored in markets, with illegal markets being the next target.
