Labour Party Member Backs Revocation of Umuahia Centre’s C of O

Obi Aguocha, the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, has described the revocation of the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of Trade More Event Centre in Umuahia by Governor Alex Otti as a decisive action.

The revocation has started criticism from opposition party members in Abia, who argue that it might deter investors from coming to the state.

However, Aguocha, a member of the Labour Party, has supported the governor’s decision, stating that it addresses the overriding public interest and the concerns of indigenous landowners.

He praised the state government’s plan to repurpose the site for a significant multi-billion naira terminal project, which he believes will benefit the wider community and prevent the alleged underutilization of the land.

Aguocha also urged Governor Otti to apply this bold approach to other state properties within the Umuahia Capital Authority that were allegedly acquired and allocated for individual use and benefit.

“Umuahia is the state capital and has to grow beyond the myopic and selfish interests of the past,” Aguocha said.

Trade More Centre is located at the site of former Umuahia main market before the market was demolished and relocated to Ubani Ibeku, by a previous administration in Abia state
