Kogi Government has stopped payment of salaries of 231 workers in the State Civil Service for alleged failure to comply with the government directive to update their records.

Mrs Hannah Odiyo,  the state’s Head of Service, made this known on Wednesday in Lokoja at the inauguration of the issuance of Identity cards to the state’s workers.

According to Odiyo, the impacted civil servants disregarded the order from the Kogi State administration to update their records.

According to the HoS, the impacted civil servants’ salaries have been suspended since November 2023.

Odiyo clarified that the purpose of the exercise was to further validate the updated staff records.

She clarified that her office had previously sent an enclosed Bio Data Form to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in May 2022, requesting that it be completed by civil servants and returned.

She emphasized that genuine data was necessary for the government to plan appropriately, particularly during a time of transition like this.

“A total of 231 staff have failed to show up for the updated records exercise, despite the fact that the Bio Data exercise revealed many shortcomings on the part of the MDAs,” the spokesperson stated.

“This has led to the suspension of their salaries since November 2023 till date.

“The question now is, where are they? Who are they? Are they ghosts?”
