The Deputy Inspector-General of Police responsible for overseeing the Kogi Governorship Election, Habu Sani, has announced that no security personnel will be permitted to accompany Very Important Persons (VIPs) to the polling stations during today’s election. This statement was conveyed by the state police’s public relations officer, Williams Ovye-Aya, in Lokoja, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to the DIG, it is strictly prohibited for any security personnel assigned to VIPs, political and public officials, or any prominent figures in the state to travel or act as escorts for their superiors during the period of vehicular movement restrictions. Violation of this order by any officer found accompanying VIPs, political and public officials, or any other influential individual to the polling unit will result in immediate arrest and appropriate action.

The DIG emphasized that VIPs, and political and public officials who intend to cast their votes must take heed of this directive to avoid any potential embarrassment. The police and other security agencies are fully committed to maintaining a secure environment during the election and will not tolerate any breach of security.

The measure aims to ensure a peaceful and secure voting process, and any violation of this order will be met with strict consequences, Sani added.
