NEWS DIGEST– Fear and tension gripped voters at the Agala Ogane Polling Unit in Anyigba as a 35-year-old supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Umar Hassan, was gunned down by individuals believed to be members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Eyewitnesses reported that SDP thugs, brandishing sophisticated weapons, invaded the polling unit, issuing threats to anyone who did not vote for the “Igala Agenda.”

According to a report,  Adamu, an eyewitness, described the harrowing experience, likening it to scenes from horror movies. He recounted how the armed thugs had forcefully entered the polling unit and unleashed violence upon the voters. Unfortunately, Hassan became a target and lost his life in the attack.

The SDP thugs continuously chanted war songs, promising to eliminate those who dared to vote against their agenda. Exhibiting a clear bias, they specifically targeted Hassan due to his affiliation with the APC. The absence of military personnel, who had been selectively arresting and harassing APC supporters, further compounded the unfortunate situation.

Across various polling units in Anyigba, calm prevailed until gunmen began targeting individuals suspected to be affiliated with the APC. However, reports indicate that the polling process remained peaceful in the Central and Western Senatorial Districts of the area.

Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, the spokesperson for the APC Governorship Campaign Council, swiftly condemned the brutal attack and called upon security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators without delay. He expressed deep concern that in the 21st century, individuals are still being killed simply for supporting a particular political party. Fanwo denounced the violent tendencies of the SDP and emphasized the urgent need to restore confidence in the electoral process.

“The gruesome murder of Hassan Umar whose only sin was being an APC member is unacceptable. The security agents in the area should fish out the murderers immediately.

“In the 21st century, it is sad that people are still killed for supporting a particular political party. It is unacceptable and condemnable. We knew the only agenda of the Swwaswass was to wage violence against our people. We must restore confidence in our electoral process”, he said.
