Kenyan authorities announced on Monday the arrest of a “serial killer” suspect following the disturbing discovery of nine mutilated bodies in a Nairobi rubbish dump.

“We have this morning arrested a prime suspect,” stated Mohamed Amin, head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, addressing reporters.

“We are dealing with a serial killer, a psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life.”

Amin further disclosed, “We have a second suspect who was caught with one of the handsets from one of the victims.”

The Acting Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, confirmed that the 33-year-old prime suspect was apprehended around 3:00 am local time near a bar, in a coordinated operation involving the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the National Police Service.

As of now, a total of nine bodies have been recovered from the Mukuru slum area, all showing signs of mutilation and dismemberment, their remains bound in plastic bags. Autopsies on the victims are scheduled for Monday.

The discovery, which began unfolding on Friday, has deeply shocked the nation, particularly as police confirmed that the victims were predominantly women.

Tensions escalated at the crime scene over the weekend, with enraged residents dispersed by police using tear gas.

These developments have not only intensified scrutiny on Kenyan law enforcement but have also added pressure on President William Ruto, who faces mounting challenges amid widespread anti-government protests resulting in numerous fatalities.

The situation continues to evolve as authorities pursue justice and investigate the full extent of this heinous crime.
