The Kebbi government has approved the disbursement of N3.34 billion as subsidy grants to 3,344 potential pilgrims embarking on this year’s Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia from the state.

This approval was granted to cover the additional costs of approximately N2 million per pilgrim, as announced by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The decision was made during an emergency executive council meeting overseen by Deputy Gov. Umar Abubakar-Tafida in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.

Speaking to reporters about the meeting’s outcome, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmad, showed that this gesture reflects Gov. Nasir Idris’s commitment to upholding religious values for fostering societal peace.

He further clarified that the allocated amount per pilgrim aims to ensure timely payment of the fares before the stipulated deadline.

”Out of about N2 million requested by NAHCON as additional fares, the Kebbi government has offset N1 million for each pilgrim, while the remaining balance should be paid by individual pilgrims to complete payment.

”Pilgrims who completed payment of the fares would also enjoy the N1 million magnanimity from the government,” the commissioner explained.
