Kano workers beg Ganduje to pay another June salary, pension

NEWS DIGEST – Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, on Tuesday appealed to the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje to pay another salary and pensions for the month of June.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that less than 20 days after payment of salary and pensions for the month of May, the state government, in a bid to offer the workers a chance to celebrate Sallah cheerfully, decided to pay the June salary early.

However, the state NLC chapter, in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Kabiru Minjibir and Secretary, Auwalu Yakasai, appealed to the state governor to consider the June salary as “advance” to be paid in instalment.

The labour union urged the governor to emulate Sokoto and Kebbi states in that regard.

“We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for payment of June salary and pensions before Sallah.

“We also appeal to the governor to consider the payment as an advance, payable in 3 equal instalments through the month of June, July and August 2018 as was done to our colleagues in Sokoto Kebbi and other states,” the statement said.

In the statement, the NLC, however, called on the authorities of the Kano University of Science and Technology Wudil, KUST to reduce the penalty imposed over its students for damaging facilities during a riot.

The university asked each student to pay the fine of N13, 000 for destroying its facilities worth N500 million during a violent protest staged by the students over the death of a level 300 student in the Wudil river.

The NLC, therefore, appealed to the KUST management to reduce the fine by 50%, calling on the students to be law abiding.
