Jamie Carragher Questions Cole Palmer’s Candidacy for Premier League Player of the Year Award

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has raised doubts about whether Cole Palmer deserves consideration for the Premier League Player of the Year award this season.

Carragher’s remarks follow Palmer’s remarkable performance in Chelsea’s 6-0 victory over Everton on Monday night, where the 21-year-old scored four goals.

Despite acknowledging Palmer’s standout display against Everton, Carragher initially suggested that the young midfielder was a strong contender for the Young Player of the Year award.

However, he has now questioned whether Palmer should also be in contention for the main Player of the Year accolade.

In a tweet via his X account, Carragher pondered, “Cole Palmer was nailed on for YPOTY, how close is he to POTY?”

Palmer’s impressive goal-scoring form has seen him emerge as a pivotal figure for Chelsea under manager Mauricio Pochettino. Currently tied with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot with 20 goals, Palmer’s stellar performances have sparked debates about his potential candidacy for top individual honors in the league.
