The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has identified 3,000 individuals in Nigeria who falsely claimed to be graduates.

During a meeting with the Committee of Pro Chancellors of State Universities in Nigeria (COPSUN) in Abuja, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, revealed this information.

According to the details published in JAMB’s bulletin, Oloyede also criticized the practice of illegal admissions in some universities across the country.

He pointed out that numerous so-called graduates had never attended a university, highlighting the systemic corruption.

Oloyede stated, “Some ‘graduates’ had never entered the four walls of a university owing to the endemic corruption in the system but the board had documented over 3,000 of such cases. Illegal admission of candidates into tertiary institutions is an embarrassment and a disservice to the nation.”

Previously, JAMB had cautioned candidates against accepting admissions that did not involve full academic participation.

Additionally, the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education had instructed JAMB in December 2023 to provide a list of tertiary institutions involved in irregular admissions.
