Internet watchdog, NetBlocks has said internet connectivity disruption in eight West African countries, including Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon Ivory Coast, Liberia, and the Benin Republic on Thursday was a result of undersea cable damage.

The interruption was accompanied by a cut somewhere in Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire, as well as in Portugal.

While SAT3 and MainOne are experiencing outages, cable companies West African Cable System (WACS) and African Coast to Europe (ACE) in the West Coast route from Europe have encountered faults.

Africa’s coast is said to have been cut at some point, along with Seacom, the Europe-India Gateway (EIG), and Asia-Africa-Europe 1 (AAE1).

The networks of service providers in the impacted countries have experienced disruptions in Internet access and speed in Nigeria and other West African countries.

Services are being gradually restored as a result of the operators of these cables having already started repairs.
