Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani appointed a 10-member committee on Monday to facilitate the resettlement of communities displaced in Southern Kaduna due to ongoing insecurity issues.

During the inauguration, Mr Sani, represented by his deputy, Hadiza Balarabe, highlighted that the decision stemmed from a recommendation made by the State Security Council on November 8, 2023.

He emphasised that the deputy governor would lead the 10-member committee and underscored the significance of their role in assisting those affected by displacement from their homes due to diverse challenges.

“The southern part of Kaduna has seen its fair share of displacement due to incidents of violence plaguing the state.

“The plight of these displaced persons weighs heavily on our collective conscience, and it is crucial that we take decisive action to address their needs and facilitate their resettlement,” he said.

He stated that the main aim is to develop thorough plans to ensure their successful resettlement by improving their access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities.

“We must actively engage the displaced communities by listening to their voices, understanding their concerns, and involving them in the decision-making processes that affect their lives,” he said.

Mr Sani emphasized that achieving this goal would involve adopting a participatory approach, ensuring that government initiatives align with the needs and aspirations of the affected population.

Hse further stated that the government intends to utilize the expertise and resources available through collaborations with relevant stakeholders, including non-governmental and community-based organizations, as well as humanitarian agencies.

Mr Sani expressed confidence in the committee members, describing them as experienced individuals who will contribute their knowledge to accomplish the established objective.

The committee comprises the Secretary to the State Government, the Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, and the chairpersons of Jema’a, Kaura, and Zangon Kataf Local Government Areas.
