Due to ongoing kidnappings and bandit activity, Rep. Sani Jaji (APC-Zamfara) is worried about the safety of children in schools in some parts of Northern Nigeria.

Following the kidnappings of students at the Federal University of Gusau and another incidence in Katsina, Mr. Jaji, who represents the Kaura-Namoda/Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency, made this statement while speaking to newsmen in Abuja.

He claimed that many locals now live in constant terror due to banditry, adding that this was seriously harming Northern Nigeria’s educational system.

“Addressing the issue through motion, discussing killings in various constituencies, observing a minute of silence, and calling on security agencies to take action, has not provided solution to the problem.”

He stated that it was becoming more and more clear that in order to effectively tackle insecurity, the Federal and State Governments needed to work together and confront the issue.

He claimed that despite the many security issues that each Nigerian state currently faces, insecurity was still a major worry in the North.

Mr. Jaji emphasized the need for increased public awareness of the security issues in Zamfara State and the larger North-West area, stressing that these issues shouldn’t be viewed as mere political games.

He claimed that the recent disagreement over negotiations with bandits between the federal government and the government of Zamfara State had only made matters worse.

“The Minister of Defense claimed that community-led dialogue with the bandits did not involve federal government intervention, but the presence of military personnel during such dialogues raises questions.

“These concerns intensify as incidents like the kidnapping of Federal University Gusau students follow purported dialogues, prompting public figures to call for a holistic approach to address the insecurity crisis decisively.”

He said, “insecurity in the North-West is a matter of great concern, as the lives and properties of the people should not be subject to political maneuvering.”
