We initiated over 99 percent Financial Management reforms—BPSR Boss

NEWS DIGEST–The Director General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Mr. Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi, has stated that the BPSR is the brain behind the initiation and implementation of over 99 percent reforms around Public Financial Management at the federal level.

He added that the adoption and implementation of their financial management reforms by Federal Government (FG) has improved the level of managing scarce resources, while also reducing corruption and wastages in the public service.

Mr. Arabi, stated this when he led a delegation of BPSR top management staff to pay a visit to the Director General and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Aliyu Aziz Abubakar.

Speaking at the NIMC headquarters in Abuja, the BPSR boss noted that the National Strategy for Public Service Reforms (NSPSR), which the Bureau developed was built around providing enabling environment, ensuring prudent Public Financial Management and building effective Civil Service Administration and Mmanagement, among others.

“We are also the brain behind BVN and the Single Treasury Account (TSA), which were all created to increase efficiency, quality service and reduce the level of man-to-man contact in terms of financial activities,” he said.

On the purpose of their visit, Mr. Arabi, said they came to NIMC as part of carrying out research and reform investigation about the bottlenecks hindering the Commission’s commitment to efficient service delivery.

He said: “We are here to find out how NIMC has implemented our objective reforms’ proposal, which are targeted at contributing to the upliftment of the Commission and facilitating quality delivery of service to Nigerians.”

The BPSR Director General, further explained that the Bureau has already advocated and urged FG to adopt the NIMC database as national database. He promised that BPSR will continue to offer necessary support and render assistance to NIMC where necessary.

Welcoming his guests, Engr. Abubakar, disclosed that the Commission has tremendously advocated and now implementing the eco-system approach to registering and capturing citizens’ data for the issuance of National Identity Number (NIN).

He said NIMC is sincerely committed to creating a unique NIN for the teeming Nigerian populace, in order to curb the unnecessary spate of capturing data and issuing of registration numbers during WAEC, JAMB, universities’ matriculation and NYSC call-up registration, among others.

“As a matter of fact, we are constrained by funding and insufficient capital to execute some of our programmes and activities. And that is why we have been constantly engaging and seeking the financial aid of international organisations such as the World Bank, and International Monetary Fund (IMF), to mention a few,” the NIMC Director General added.
