In Otukpo, Benue state, the 2023 Idoma Carnival, headlined by Innocent Ujah Idibia, widely known as Tuface Idibia, showcased a spectacular blend of carnival parades, cultural displays, a beauty contest, and mesmerizing musical performances by renowned Nigerian musicians.

The event, marking the pinnacle of a three-day celebration, featured electrifying acts from Tuface, Harry Song, Terry G, Duncan Mighty, Portable, Chris Morgan, Teddy King, James Agbo, and others, captivating a massive audience with their hit songs.

Originally known as the Agila Social and Economic Carnival since its inception in 2013, the carnival recently rebranded to the Idoma International Carnival, encompassing the entirety of Idoma land. Prince Edwin Ochai, President of the Idoma International Carnival, expressed pride in the event’s growth, emphasizing its vital role in showcasing the rich Idoma culture, encompassing music, dance, fashion, art, and culinary delights.

Addressing the challenges faced over the past decade, Ochai highlighted the carnival’s enduring spirit, evolving into one of West Africa’s largest street parties. He initiated the carnival in 2013 with a passion for preserving and spotlighting the Idoma culture globally.

Ochai emphasized the carnival’s multifaceted impact, serving as a catalyst for social and economic development, empowering hundreds of women and youths through economic schemes, and attracting business opportunities to Idomaland. The event continues to stand as a testament to the resilience and prosperity of the Idoma people.
