The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Hon Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, emphasizes the crucial need for continuous evaluation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

He asserts that this ongoing review is essential to align the legislation with the changing dynamics of the global energy landscape and the specific needs of Nigeria. At the committee’s inaugural meeting on Tuesday, Doguwa highlighted their significant mandate to thoroughly assess and amend the Act, ensuring its robustness, forward-looking nature, and adherence to best practices. 

He emphasizes that the true measure of legislation lies not just in its passage but in its effective execution and adaptability. Reflecting on the PIA’s enactment as a pivotal moment for industry reform, Doguwa urges collaboration among all industry stakeholders to propel the sector’s development.

“The enactment of the Petroleum Industry Act by the 9th Assembly was a watershed moment, signaling a new dawn of reform intended to revitalize an industry that is the lifeblood of our economy,” the lawmaker said.

He called for the collaboration of all stakeholders within the industry to drive the development of the sector.
