Lebanon’s Hezbollah launched over 60 rockets at an Israeli military base, citing revenge for the killing of Hamas’s deputy leader in Beirut.

Tensions have escalated on the Israel-Lebanon border since the Israel-Hamas conflict began on October 7. Hezbollah’s strike follows the assassination of Sheikh Saleh al-Aruri, raising concerns of further hostilities.

The Israeli military reported around 40 rocket launches from Lebanon, responding to the attacks. The cross-border clashes have resulted in 175 deaths in Lebanon and casualties in northern Israel.

“As part of the initial response to the crime of assassinating the great leader Sheikh Saleh al-Aruri… the Islamic resistance (Hezbollah) targeted the Meron air control base with 62 various types of missiles,” the Iran-backed group said in a statement.
