Heavy Rainfall in Gusau Leaves Many Homeless

Heavy rainfall in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, has left many people homeless due to house collapses.

The flooding, particularly in the Genge Maigemu area of Tudun Wada, blocked passage for people and vehicles.

Residents were seen salvaging their belongings as the rain caused significant property damage.

“We couldn’t sleep as the rain started very early, and we were busy packing some of the things we could save,” Mama Bilikisu said.

Another victim of the disaster, Salisu Ibrahim, lamented that the rain destroyed his house and property, stating that he now has to repair his house and replace his belongings despite economic hardship.

However, some people blamed the destruction on carelessness, noting that many did not adhere to government building plans.

“Most of the houses were constructed on waterways, which causes problems and damages during the rainy season,” said Musa, an engineer.

Efforts to reach local government authorities on the issue were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
