In Uga roundabout, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra state, two police personnel were fatally shot by suspected assailants on Thursday evening.

The gunmen, operating on a kidnap mission, clashed with a police team attempting to clear traffic gridlock. Unaware of the armed presence, the officers were ambushed, leading to a fatal exchange.

Commissioner of Police Aderemi Adeoye has ordered an intensive manhunt for the assailants, who were reportedly disguised in military fatigue. The police swiftly responded, recovering a Lexus SUV and an AK-47 rifle, while defusing an improvised explosive device found in the assailants’ vehicle.

Despite the tragedy, CP Adeoye commended the officers for their bravery and urged heightened vigilance. The police chief extended condolences to the families of the fallen officers and reassured the public, urging them not to succumb to fear during the festive season.

“The CP Aderemi Adeoye had declared the weekend and Christmas holidays as special working days for all officers and men in the command, he commended all personnel for their tireless and courageous effort in securing the people of Anambra State.

“The CP has urged all officers and men of Anambra State Police Command to redouble their efforts and remain vigilant while assuring that technology would be employed to track down the criminals who unleashed the attack on Police personnel,” he said.
