Gunmen have reportedly abducted three medical students from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) in Cross River State.

The victims were identified as Ojang Precious Ebejin, a 200-level student of Medicine and Surgery; Ugwu Chukwuemeka, a 300-level student of Genetics and Biotechnology; and Damilola Dickson, a final-year student of the same department.

The students were said to have been abducted in a daring raid on Thursday night, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria, citing police sources.

Confirming the abduction on Sunday, SP Irene Ugbo, the spokesperson for the Cross River State Police Command, assured that the authorities, in collaboration with other security agencies, have launched a comprehensive manhunt to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe release of the victims.

The incident occurred within the university campus, specifically at one of the university’s hostels, though further details regarding the circumstances remain undisclosed at this time.

“The police are working in collaboration with other agencies to rescue the students,” stated the police spokesperson, highlighting the concerted effort underway to bring the abducted students back to safety amidst growing concerns over their well-being.
