Lisha Dachor, a 19-year-old Nigerian nail artist from Plateau State, has completed her attempt to establish a new Guinness World Record for the longest personal nail painting marathon.

Dachor reportedly painted more than 4,000 artificial nails during the “nail-a-thon” in just 72 hours.

In a post on her Facebook page on Thursday, she wrote, “Breaking barriers and setting records! Honoured to have set a new milestone in the world of nail art with the longest marathon painting of artificial nails by an individual. Grateful for the journey and the incredible support.”

Dachor declared on April 25 that she would take on the challenge at Odilin’s Event Center, which is located behind the National Library in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, from April 28 to May 1.

She added that attendees would be provided with free bus transportation to and from the venue.

Dachor said in a BBC interview that she wants to use her record attempt to draw attention to Plateau State.

“People judge the Plateau by its cover. Apart from the ethnic issues we have, Plateau is a beautiful place. I got support from all ethnic groups while I embarked on this attempt,” she said.

It was also reported that she took on the challenge of reframing the stereotype of young mothers such as herself.

“I want to give people hope, especially single mothers, because many people don’t think we have anything to offer,” she told the BBC.

After the event, Dachor will submit the proof of her lengthy nail painting session to Guinness World Records, who will then review her attempt.

Many people, particularly online users, expressed joy and appreciation after the “nail-a-thon” ended.

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, also took to his handle on X.com to express his pride in Dachor’s “record-breaking spirit.”

“I proudly join in celebrating Lisha Seleme Dachor’s record-breaking spirit of a young talent from Plateau State on her Guinness World Record attempt for the longest nail art marathon. Your determination aligns with my administration’s policy objectives for the youth and inspires us all,” he wrote.

The News Digest reported in April that a Nigerian chess expert Tunde Onakoya, broke the record for the longest marathon game of chess by recording a whopping 60 hours.

Onakoya broke the record set by Norwegian players Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad, who played for 56 hours and nine minutes in 2018 with his partner Shawn Martinez from the United States.

Clara Kronborg, a Nigerian social media entrepreneur, beat American Rob Oliver, who held the record for the longest interview in 2022 with an average of 37 hours and 44 minutes, to break the Guinness World Record in the same month.
