In an impressive display of stamina and tactical prowess, chess master Tunde Onakoya continues to dominate in his marathon chess session, advancing steadily towards his goal of breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest consecutive hours of chess playing.

Onakoya, a skilled chess player admired for his strategic skills and strong dedication started this impressive challenge, aiming to beat the current record and make a mark in chess history.

In addition to his remarkable achievements in chess, Onakoya is also dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of homeless youth across Africa.

Through initiatives such as Chess in Slums Africa (@chessinslumsafrica) and The Gift of Chess (@thegiftofchess), he aims to empower underprivileged youth by providing them with access to chess education and resources.

 

Onakoya embarked on his marathon chess session with a determination to surpass the longest chess marathon, aiming for an ambitious 58-hour feat to beat the previous 56-hour record.

The marathon officially started on Wednesday, April 17th, at 11:30 AM [EST] in New York, and he will be concluding the attempt on Friday, April 19th, 2024.

The ultimate goal of the initiative is to raise $1,000,000, which will be used to support programs that promote learning, critical thinking, and personal development through the game of chess.

By leveraging his platform and influence within the chess community, Onakoya seeks to create opportunities for youth to thrive and succeed, regardless of their socio-economic background.

Through his commitment to philanthropy and chess advocacy, Onakoya embodies the spirit of giving back,using chess as a tool for positive change in Africa.

Onakoya is currently playing against Shawn Martinez (US), who is his permanent opponent for the marathon. Martinez is a US National Master, renowned New York City chess legend, and chess coach.

In addition to the game with Martinez, he is also playing another game with anyone interested in playing. Therefore, he is playing two games concurrently.

The record is for the longest continuous chess game.

The attempt must involve a team of two players.The duration of the attempt must be measured in hours, minutes, and seconds.

The same player must face the same opponent for the entire duration.

The attempt must occur in a public venue open to public inspection.

Five minutes of rest is allowed for every hour of continuous play, and these breaks can be accumulated.
